Should CBD oil be part of your skin care
The 48-year-old, Chris Livingston has been sober for 7 years now and would do anything to protect that achievement. He says that he is protective of the sobriety. According to him, it’s the number one thing in his lif
Livingston has been taking two drops of cannabidiol (CBD) daily. CBD is a substance extracted from the cannabis plants. “It’s God, Alcoholics Anonymous, my family, and the CBD oil. Those are the components of my life,” he said.
CBD is considered to be one of the most popular chemical compounds found in the Cannabis sativa plants. Specifically, hemp contains a high amount of CBD that is THC-free. Hence, it doesn’t make anyone feel high after consuming. CBD derived from the industrial hemp grown carefully under a healthy condition tend to contain less than 0.3% THC. Hence, can be a high source of the CBD which can be further used to produce CBD infused creams, oils, and other supplementary products.
It was about 2 years back when Livingston had first taken CBD oil after a friend recommended. He recalls how depression had hit him and scared the death out. He’s been living with anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, and depression. Soon he purchased a bottle from a store and started taking drops of CBD by simply placing the dropper under his tongue. Within 5 – 10 minutes he felt the effect. He was feeling completely normal.
From that day, till today he chooses to begin his day and end it with a drop of CBD oil. Livingston shares his CBD experience and how it has changed his life. “In four months now, I have not had one depression, not one anxiety, not one bout with the PTSD. And ADHD has gone from 30 things in my mind.... down to about three or four things” according to Livingston.
The CBD doctor
Dr. James Taylor, MD, is a board-certified anesthesiologist based in Southern Pines, NC. Also a founder of Integrated Hemp Solutions, he is a specialist in pain management and this company manufactures hemp derived CBD medicines. Involved with CBD in 2016, he is now treating 1000+ patients. Taylor and his patients both have experienced wonderful results in patients with chronic pain.
A study was conducted on 100 patients in his clinic last year. The study revealed that CBD had helped the patients with a decrease in anxiety, improvement in sleep length and quality, and increase in self-perceived hope. Taylor further elaborated that the cannabis compounds specifically acts on the body’s in-built endocannabinoid system that has receptors in the nerves, brain, and spinal cord.
How to pick the right CBD product?
The buyers who are interested in buying CBD products should be aware of scams and fake or low-quality products. Taylor recommends the buyers to ask for third-party testing evidence. This ensures that the product is high in quality. He further states to consult a health care expert.
Research on CBD and mental health.
The CBD has become quite popular since the last two years. There are a lot of scientific studies conducted that shows various promising health benefits of the CBD. However, more research should be undertaken to understand its effect on patients with anxiety, insomnia, PTSD, and chronic pain.
CBD and its benefit have been acknowledged by the FDA. The first CBD drug, Epidiolex was approved and launched by the FDA in June 2018 to overcome seizures in children.
CBD has been doing a lot of rounds to reduce anxiety. According to research conducted in 2015, almost 49 studies concluded that CBD showed major potential for treating anxiety disorders. The oral doses CBD were ranging from 300 to 600 mg. More studies were conducted in 2018 that reviewed CBD to show excellent efficacy in reducing anxiety, psychotic, and withdrawal symptoms.
A study in 2011 reported that CBD could help patients with a social anxiety disorder (SAD) before talking in front of a huge audience. Placebo was conducted on 12 people each were given a dose of CBD 1.5 hours before giving a speaking. They showed lower anxiety level, lower discomfort, and less cognitive impairment after CBD consumption.
According to a 2018 case study, 11 adults in Colorado were suffering from PTSD. One experienced a reduction in PTSD symptoms after eight weeks of CBD ingestion. Research conducted in 2017 reviewed that CBD has therapeutic potential for treating insomnia. However, more research is required on this since the studies had mixed results.
